Other Mandatory E-Services by Government of India

Passport Seva Project by the Ministry of External Affairs

Indian passports (and some other travel documents such as identity cards for Tibetan refugees, emergency certificates, police clearance certificates, and line of control travel permits in Jammu and Kashmir) are issued by the MEA, through the Central Passport Organization and passport offices all over India. This network has Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs—the passport centers) functioning under a PPP. The functions of the MEA also include the issuance of passports and other related documents through its Indian mis- sions/offices across the world for Indians living abroad.

The passport management by all stakeholders in India is mandatory to come through e-services (http://passportindia.gov.in). The PSP online system functionality includes broader reach, usefulness, ease of use, and greater transparency, with the availability of the information on passport services including real-time tracking of status. The system serves as an interface with the key stakeholders: citizens, internal users of the MEA, Indian missions and posts/immigration checkpoints, and the Indian police.
