Note

1 The rising interest in sustainability as it relates to architecture and urbanism is evident in the surge in the development of assessment tools and rating systems in both the Global North and the Global South. Recent efforts include the establishment of the Sustainable Development Goals Commission as part of the key commissions and working groups of the International Union of Architects in Paris. This commission has initiated an important guide for architects and planners to address the UN Sustainable Development Goals in their practices. Notably, key features of the AKAA-awarded and -shortlisted projects address the fundamental values embedded in this guide. See Architecture Guide to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Available: www.uia-architectes.org/webApi/uploads/ ressourcefile/590/sdg_commission_un 17_guidebook.pdf [Accessed 22/1/2020].
