Teresa Rodriguez de las Heras Ballell is currently Associate Professor of Commercial Law at University Carlos III of Madrid where she teaches in ah areas of Business Law since 1999. She is also Deputy Vice-Chancellor in International Relations at her university. She graduated in Law and in Business Administration in 1999 with honors (fist in her class) and got her PhD with Award of Special Distinction in 2005. She is an Arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration of Madrid and of the Spanish Court of Arbitration in commercial and financial disputes, Expert in arbitrating conflicts on domain names .es, and member of the Advertising Standards Tribunal (Autocontrol). She has an extensive experience as an international legal consultant in pre-legislative projects: member of the Expert Group on the elaboration of a Fourth Protocol for the Cape Town Convention on international security interests (UNIDROIT); Legal adviser to national and regional legislators in the drafting of new legislation on electronic commerce; member of the Common Core Project on “Immoral Contracts”, European Union; and Short Term Expert in the EU Twinning Project Spain- Turkey on maritime law. She is also member of the Aviation Working Group (AWG)’s Spanish Contact Group for work relating to the Cape Town Convention and its Aircraft Protocol for the implementation in Spain. In 2011, she was designated Vice-President of the International Working Group on “New Technologies, Prevention and Insurance”, Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances (AIDA). She has developed her research in prestigious universities and research centers: currently, Visiting Scholar at Columbia Law School; Fellow at Transatlantic Technology Law Forum, Stanford Law School; James J. Coleman, Sr. Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law, Tulane Law School; Visiting Fellow at Harris Manchester College, Oxford University; Marie Curie Fellow at the Centre of European Law and Politics (ZERP) of the University of Bremen (Germany); Researcher at UNIDROIT, Visiting Scholar at University of Washington; University of Arizona; Project Researcher at the University of Tokyo; University College of London; Fordham University. Besides, she regularly gives lectures abroad in several universities: University College of London, Columbia Law School, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Tulane University Law School, Kapodistrian University of Athens, Abo Akademi/Turku University, Reykjavik University, Paris II Pantheon Assass, Aarhus University, Orebro University (Sweden), Paris I Sorbonne, Universidad de la Republica del Uruguay, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universita di Bologna (Italy). Her research activity has been awarded with several prizes (among others, Excellence in Research Prize, W30 Santander/UCLA; First Prize Freshfields-Financial Times). Professor Rodriguez de las Heras is author of numerous publications both in English and in Spanish in a variety of topics.
