A RELATED RICH PROBLEM TO EXPLORE

1. Sports Stadium

The governor of your state wants to build a new sports stadium in one of the five big cities in your state. Propose a plan for the new sports stadium.

2. Drafting a Pitcher

You are the general manager of a major league baseball team, and you have the first pick in the upcoming draft. Who would you pick and how would you decide on the best pitcher? You need to be able to defend your pick using data available about your player.

You can present any one of the mathematical modeling prompts and use the following mathematical modeling approach (below) to engage your students in creative mathematical modeling.

Math Modeling Task Drafting a Basketball Player

The Task

You are the general manager of a major league Basketball team, and you have the first pick in the upcoming draft. Who would you pick and how would you decide on the best basketball player? You need to be able to defend your pick using data available about your player.

Teacher's note: You may change it I ะพ any sport that students have connections with, like pick the best swimmer, baseball pitcher, soccer player, etc.
