Dwellings Hotels and Hospitals
Dwellings hotels and hospitals acoustics mainly revolve around a common concern: limiting the amount of noise transmitted inside rooms and achieving a reasonable degree of privacy. The term noise may represent the noise in the next dwelling from, for example, discussion, a person walking, or user’s equipment operating, as well as the noise from appliances and mechanical services (sanitary installations, HVAC, etc.).
Yet, regarding hospitals, there also is a need for the staff to be able to hear any suspicious noise that might spell alarm. In addition, there also is an emphasized need to prevent potential infection by means of room envelope coverings, as well as by mechanical services.

In addition, one may notice that while stand-alone apartment buildings are quite common, one may also encounter dwellings in other kind of buildings, for example, in a school or in a facility, in order to house the staff. In addition to the usual dwelling acoustics regulations, some other requirements may be applicable too (e.g., in a discotheque or a cinema the dwelling will have to be considered as a third party and acoustically protected accordingly).
It must be stressed that the above-mentioned regulations pertain to the acoustic performances of the building housing the dwellings. It does not tackle the problem of noise emitted in the dwellings because of improper behavior, which is normally covered by community noise control regulations.
