Notes

  • 1 Aristotle, Politics, 1302b34—1303a-21, adds demographic balance among classes as a cause of disorder.
  • 2 Hegel (1973), Philosophy of Right, paras. 195, 239, 244, 253, 266, 271-72, argues that the polarization of wealth between the rich and poor, brought about by the love of luxury and extravagance of the business (gewerbetriebenden) classes, encouraged a sense of inward resentment and rebellion against the rich, the society and the government.
