Industries, Industry Associations, Professional Associations, and Professional Journals Council to Improve Foodborne Outbreak Response

The Council to Improve Foodborne Outbreak Response (CIFOR) was formed by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and the National Association of County and City Health Officials to improve foodborne outbreak response, to develop guidelines for studies and solutions, to provide a list of resources and tools, and to provide means of measuring levels of performance in solving enteric illnesses. The National Environmental Health Association has made recommendations to improve the effectiveness of state and local food protection programs. These recommendations are of considerable significance because many of the members of the National Environmental Health Association are practitioners at a local or state level and have a fine understanding of the practical issues involved in food protection in a vast variety of local and state locations. The specific recommendations are in the categories of surveillance, inspection, regulation, food safety and food defense, emergency response, and leadership.
